COVID-19 - Update from City of Dallas, Dallas County, and CDC

Hi, LFH!

Lots of updates in the last couple of days. We've seen all kinds of restrictions proposed and put in place regarding total size of gatherings and inter-person distance (i.e. "social distancing").

Here's some key information from our public health services and municipal entities:

  • The City has issued a new emergency order as of Mon, March 16th

  • No community gatherings of 50+ persons

  • Mandatory closure of: bars, lounges, taverns, private clubs, gyms, health studios, theaters and commercial amusement facilities.

  • Closed: all City of Dallas libraries, neighborhood cultural centers, recreation centers and community centers including West Dallas Multipurpose Center and Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center until (at least) Fri, March 20th

  • CDC recommends no gatherings of 50+ persons for the next 8 weeks (i.e. until May 12th)

If you are around other people, here are those magic numbers:

  • 6 feet - Stay at least this far away from others to help curtail disease spread, especially in public places

  • 14 days - How long you should self-quarantine if you have been exposed to the new coronavirus or are at risk for coming down with COVID-19

  • 9 persons - Maximum size recommended for an in-person meeting that includes vulnerable individuals (e.g. the elderly, the immunosuppressed, and those with diabetes or lung/heart disease)

  • 20 seconds - Minimum scrub time when washing your hands

  • 60% - Minimum safe alcohol content in hand sanitizer or wipes used to kill COVID-19

  • 100.4F - You may have a fever. Exercise caution, and talk to your doctor immediately if you have a cough or trouble breathing
