Trex® Community Recycling Challenge
To earn a beautiful Trex bench to we must collect 1,000 lbs. of stretchable plastic by May 31, 2026.
LFH neighbors are do-gooders and here’s an easy way to do something good for our planet, our neighborhood and ourselves.
Trex, a company that makes plastic benches and decking from recycled plastics, challenges community organizations to collect, record, and recycle 1,000 pounds of soft film plastics and packaging within a 12-months period to be rewarded with a Trex® bench. This bench will belong to our neighborhood, and we can personalize it with a plaque and place it wherever we choose.
Here’s What You Can Do:
Start collecting every piece of stretchable plastic: grocery bags, bread bags, ice bags, cereal bags, bubble wrap, dry cleaning bags, overwrap of products, shipping envelopes (no need to remove shipping labels!), zip-lock bags (no food residue), plastic wrapped around bottles or cans, etc.
Once you have a trash bag full of stretchable plastics, drop off your bag at 9007 Diceman – this is our preferred collection method!
If you are homebound or have difficulty dropping off your recycling, text 214-673-0952 with your address, and a volunteer will pick it up as soon as possible.
How Our Volunteers Make It Happen:
Our team of volunteers will collect all the donated plastics, weigh them, log them, and submit them to Trex online. Then, we’ll deliver the materials to Albertson’s for final processing.
Our 12-month collection period begins on June 1, 2025 and ends on May 31, 2026.
Every piece of plastic collected during our 12-month collection period counts toward our 1,000-pound goal! By working together, we can bring a Trex® bench to our neighborhood while keeping plastic waste out of landfills. Let’s make this happen, LFH!
